President’s Report to the 2008 AGM
Dear members,
After such a
really hard winter and the country in recession, we can at least look forward
to a brighter future in the club.
It is with great
pleasure that I can announce that we had a successful year and have shown a
small profit.
A large part of
this is due to Mr Paul Scoble assisted by Chairman Mr Robert Gibb for their
continual hard work they have put in throughout the past year.
I would like to
give my special thanks to Mr Andy Cunningham, Mr Dave Spence, Mr Andy Collins
and Mr Barry Channell all of whom are non committee members who have given up
their valuable time and expertise to help keep the club in good order for no
financial gain.
My thanks go to
Mr Clive Scott, the treasurer and Mr Bill Adams, the secretary for excelling in
their official duties.
I would like to
express my special thanks to all the members who have supported the club
throughout the year, as without their support the club would not have survived.
With limited
funds Mr Paul Scoble has managed to arrange very successful social events which
have been thoroughly enjoyed by the members. Bill’s bingo on alternative
Saturdays still makes an enjoyable evening for those who like a little flutter.
The senior
members outing to Southsea would not have been possible without the generousity
of one of our valued members, Mr Harry Hunt. A very good time was enjoyed by
all.
This year I have
great pleasure to announce four new life members: Mr Peter Eaton, Mr Noel
Farrell, Mr James Jappy and Mr John Marriott.
Regrettably I
have to announce the death of the following members: Mr Michael McLoughlin, Mr
Philip Weeden and Mr Philip Whitehead. To those who mourn their passing, we
send our respects.
I wish to convey
my thanks to the stewardess Alison who was ably assisted by Carol and to all
the bar staff for their hard work for the club.
I conclude my
report to you all for your valued loyality.
My thanks to you all.
Anthony Shackleford
President
